Homework: Your reading task - handed out before break will be due on Wednesday. I have attached the document. You will need to print it out to complete and turn in. You could complete as a word document on your computer, but it would need to be printed out prior to class to turned in on time. I have posted both sheets - one for fiction and one for nonfiction. Pd. 5- Paper that was handed out at end of PERIOD

Bell Ringer: Topic sentence and main idea questions. (answered questions on a note card)
Task 1: Imitation- grammar lesson
Task 2: Period 2 and 5 reviewed what an effective paragraph contains (stop light activity), looked at model paragraph and Mrs. Owens imitation paragraph (most of it). Student are to imitate the paragraph using one of the two topic sentence starters or creating one of your own.
Homework: Write a paragraph about:
1. _ is like a toy chest to me.
2. Winter is like_ to me.
3. Choose one of your own (see below for an example)
Paragraph due Friday.
Students can choose to write a paragraph (making sure it has all three parts) creating their own topic sentence, but should still imitate structure. Example: My blanket was like a best friend. Students must highlight the parts as follows:
Write a paragraph. (topic sentence,supporting details, (elaboration)concluding sentence) If you choose to put your t.s. at the end, then you need to use an introductory sentence (highlight in green and underline.)

Listen to Mrs. Arnold intro and then the book talks for this unit - "Stirring Up Justice" . You need to select three books you would like to read and obtain parental permission by Tuesday, January 12. Click on the link below, make sure you have the list/permission sheet and get started. :) All of the books are fantastic!
